Time we opted out of this Eurovision farce

I missed the Eurovision. I was away on holidays. From what I hear I didn't miss a whole lot. I think it's time we stopped entering for this farce they call Eurovision. Last year we had a brilliant singer and song and still we were beaten. It is obvious all the Eastern European countries are voting for each other. It should be renamed the Eastern European Countries Song Contest. PATRICIA KEELEY, WILLINGTON DRIVE D 6W * Watching the Eurovision, I winced when the Irish came on stage. The female singer must have borrowed her dress from Dana when she won the competition in 1973. The song was so bad, thank God you could hardly hear her sing it. What else can we expect when, behind closed doors, the musician are band are picked to represent us. What else would you expect when the final is held on a chat show watched mostly by the older population who are stuck in the past and think traditional music is appropriate as a Eurovision entry? Wake up Ireland and move with the times. I would like to suggest that future entries should be judged on a young adult programme. J MOLLOY, UPPER DENMARK STREET, LIMERICK CITY * G'day Anto Kerins (Letters, May 16). That wasn't the cuckoo you heard mate, it was the Irish entry into the East European song contest. JAMES ROGERS, HAMILTON HILL, AUSTRALIA * I voice my grave concern that the Irish Medicines Board has only now seen fit to wtihdraw the Anti Inflammatory drug Aulin a drug that has been withdrawn in other countries many years before. What other drugs, now neing used, should be withdrawn? PAUL DORAN, MONASTERY WALK, CLONDALKIN D22
