Worker in deep water

A pool company worker has been arrested after draining a swimming pool on to a US road in freezing temperatures and causing several car crashes.

Police in Norwalk, Connecticut, charged 34-year-old resident Alfredo Bahena-Benitez with reckless endangerment.

PRINTER IS A SWEET IDEA

Printers that churn out confectionery rather than paper documents have gone on display at the world's largest consumer electronics show.

The 3D printers can produce sweets using chocolate or sugar flavoured with vanilla, mint, sour apple, cherry and watermelon and are capable of creating complicated shapes that are usually difficult to mould.

BANANA BANDIT

US police are looking for a man who smashed his vehicle into a petrol station in Connecticut, snatched a banana from a shelf and ate it before leaving. Nothing else was taken.

The store's CCTV shows a Ford Freestyle with Connecticut licence plates backing repeatedly into the store and breaking the glass doors, which set off the burglar alarm at about 2am.

GOOD SAMARITANS

England cricketers Matt Prior and Stuart Broad turned good Samaritans after talking a man out of jumping off a bridge in Darling Harbour, Sydney.

Wicketkeeper Prior was with fast bowler Broad and England security officer Terry Minish when they spotted the unnamed man, who was thought to be English, about to jump.

SNAKE SMUGGLERS

A brother and sister were charged this week by US prosecutors with illegally importing a rare boa constrictor from Brazil.

The authorities say the Jeremy Stone (39) and his sister, Keri Stone (34), paid thousands of dollars to administrators at a Brazilian zoo to get the white leucistic boa, and falsely reported that it had been caught in the wild in Guyana.

SURROGATE GRANDMA

A 58-year-old US woman is set to give birth in a few weeks -- to her first grandchild. Julia Navarro is serving as a surrogate for her daughter and son-in-law who had fertility problems.

Navarro's daughter, Lorena McKinnon, said she's had about a dozen miscarriages. Lorena said a friend and sister both considered carrying her baby, but ultimately decided against it. That's when her mother offered to step in.
