Barack Obama and his wife Michelle have been spotted enjoying their first weeks away from the White House on Richard Branson's sun-soaked private island.

The couple were pictured enjoying a stroll on Necker Island and taking in some sunshine with the Virgin Media mogul and his daughter Holly.

Branson has publicly supported Obama in the oast.

The former president looked relaxed away from the Oval Office, wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.

He waved cheerfully to a bystander who snapped a video of the group walking on the sand.

The Caribbean hideaway was snapped up by billionaire Branson in 1979 and has now been turned into a plush resort.

The island can be rented out for around €74,000. Up to 34 guests can be accomodated.
