Waterford crystal and 32,000 lights: A look at this year's ball for the NYE Ball Drop in Times Square Newsdesk Newsdesk

Millions of people tune in every New Year's Eve to watch the famous 'ball drop in' Times Square and this year's spectacular globe will continue the tradition in style.

This year's ceremony features a giant crystal ball made from panels of Waterford Crystal. There are more than 2,600 triangle panels on the ball,w which is some 12 foot in diameter.

It will be lit by 32,000 LED lights.

UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon will be the guest of honour at this year's event.
