Vegans' jailing for son's death upheld

The top court in Georgia, US, yesterday upheld the life sentence against a vegan couple over the death of their malnourished six-week-old boy.

The court rejected appeals by Jade Sanders and Lamont Thomas over the April 2004 death of Crown Shakur.

Opera 'hurt' after conductor's move

Rome's Teatro dell'Opera said Fabio Luisi's last-minute bolt from his engagement to conduct 'Elektra' so he could conduct at New York's Metropolitan Opera hurt the world of lyric opera.

Peers free after short stint in jail

Former Tory peers Lord Taylor of Warwick and Lord Hanningfield are free after serving a quarter of their sentence for fiddling expenses.

Mr Taylor (58) was jailed for 12 months for fraudulently claiming £11,000 (€12,700), while Mr Hanningfield (70) got nine months for falsely taking £14,000 (€16,200).

The star (28) who was sacked from the judging panel, appears for just a few seconds in an eight-minute video previewing Simon Cowell's new show.
