A 104-year-old Iraqi has proved that you're never too old to become a new man.

Taufeek Khanjar is thought to have become the oldest person to be declared a British citizen when he took part in a citizenship ceremony in Kingston-upon-Thames, Surrey.

45th time unlucky for armed robber

A man arrested 44 times without ever being convicted is facing 32 years in a US jail after being convicted in Philadelphia for a pair of armed robberies.

About 20 of the previous cases against 25-year-old John Gassew collapsed after witnesses failed to appear for court.

Thieves steal gold from courthouse

Thieves have stolen $3m (€2.3m) worth of gold nuggets from a lobby display case inside a courthouse in California gold country.

Investigators say surveillance video indicates two men broke into the Siskiyou County courthouse and smashed the display case glass. An alarm on the case did not activate.

Wing man gobbles up chicken record

Japanese competitive-eating champ Takeru Kobayashi ate a record 337 chicken wings in 30 minutes before a crowd of nearly 20,000 at Wing Bowl XX in Philadelphia, US.

He demolished the record of 255 set last year by Jonathan 'Super' Squibb, claiming a $200,000 (€152,000) prize in the process.

Sheepish rabbit shoots to fame

Champis, the five-year-old pet rabbit from the small village of Kal in northern Sweden, shot to online fame last week, after a clip of his sheep-herding skills surfaced on a blog.

The video, which has garnered more than 700,000 hits on YouTube, shows the persistent bunny running back and forth on the farm, trying to keep Nils-Erik and Greta Vigren's sheep together.

Emotional tour for Springsteen band

Bruce Springsteen guitarist Steve Van Zandt says touring without saxophonist Clarence Clemons is sure to be emotional for the E Street Band and its audience.

Mr Clemons (69) died last year after a stroke and Mr Van Zandt said the band's work would always be a tribute to him and keyboard player Danny Federici, who died in 2008. The Boss and the E Street Band begin a long tour next month. They play the RDS in Dublin on July 17 and 18.
