Thank you, burglars

A woman has written a thank you letter to the burglars who broke into her house and apologised for not having "particularly expensive tastes".

Kate Barrett (36) wrote that she and her partner, Dan Owens, were "disappointed" the thieves had ignored her VHS video collection. Ms Barrett stuck the letter to the back door of their Northampton home. It read: "Dear Burglars, Thanks for popping by the other night and we're sorry we didn't have more for you to take. As you now know, we don't have particularly expensive tastes so there's no need to come in again. Lots of love, Kate and Dan xxx."


Police have charged a 20-year-old man with reckless endangerment for allegedly driving his car down the Philadelphia Museum of Art steps made famous by the movie 'Rocky'.

Police say Emin Faki told them the brakes on the car failed and he could not stop it. Police had the BMW checked out and filed the criminal charge. A judge ordered Faki to appear for a hearing on December 18 – and to stay away from the museum in the meantime.


Detectives in the Bahamas are investigating the drowning of a 32-year-old man in a free diving tournament. The man was named as Nicholas Mevoli, of Brooklyn, New York.

The incident happened off the coast of Long Island, about 164 miles south east of the Bahamas capital, Nassau, as Mr Mevoli was trying to break a record for the deepest "Constant No Fins" free dive at the International Free Diving Competition.


The 94-year-old Russian designer of the AK-47 assault rifle, the world's most popular gun, is seriously ill in hospital.

Mikhail Kalashnikov is in an emergency unit in the province of Udmurtia, but no further details of his condition were released. Around 100 million AK-47s are spread worldwide. The name stands for "Avtomat Kalashnikova".


An American social worker has been arrested after a foster child she was caring for was found cuffed by the ankle to her front porch with a dead chicken hanging around his neck.

Wanda Sue Larson and partner Dorian Lee Harper were arrested in Monroe, North Carolina, after a sheriff's deputy found the 11-year-old boy. The couple, both 57, adopted four children and were serving as foster parents to the fifth child.
