Second World War bomb removed safely from town after 10,000 evacuated
A huge Second World War bomb which forced the evacuation of about 10,000 people in the Polish town where it was found has been removed safely.
The 1,102lb German ST-500 bomb was unearthed during a road project in the eastern town of Bialystock.
Bomb disposal experts loaded the device on to a special truck to transport it to a test range where they planned to destroy it.
The 10,000 people evacuated in the removal operation are returning home.
Police spokesman Tomasz Krupa said the removal was successful and Bialystok residents who were evacuated were cleared to go home.
