Search for heir to $1bn Saudi fund

A search is under way for the descendant of a 19th century Indian shipping magnate who is owed $1bn (€770m) in compensation from Saudi Arabia.

The sum will be paid to the direct heir of Mayankutty Keyi, in recompense for the destruction of the family's elaborate house in Mecca in 1971. The Arakkals, erstwhile rulers of the Malabar Coast, and the Keyis, who created a shipping empire, have a history of bitter feuds and have indicated they will mount campaigns to be recognised as the beneficiaries.

But so far neither family has identified a direct descendant.
