DIRECTOR Roman Polanski said the birth control pill has had a "masculinising" effect on women, in comments made at the Cannes Film Festival.

Polanski (79) was at the premiere of 'Venus in Fur', a film which stars Polanski's wife and toys with the subject of gender. He told reporters the Pill had "changed the place of women in our times" and also lamented that "offering flowers to a lady" had become "indecent".
