Rapper Afroman has been arrested for simple assault after police said he punched a female fan on stage during a concert in Biloxi, Mississippi.

Afroman, who is best known for his hit Because I Got High, was arrested last night and the show was cancelled.

The 40-year-old rapper, whose real name is Joseph Foreman, was released by Biloxi police after posting a 330 US dollar (£215) bond.

The rapper's representative said in a statement that Afroman did not know if the fan was a man or a woman and just reacted to someone being on the stage.

Afroman apologised on his Facebook page today and said he accepted full responsibility for his actions.
