Police in Brazil's biggest city have detained around 90 people amid violent demonstrations over the killing of a 17-year-old.

It is the latest night of protests in Brazil, and while the size of demonstrations has tapered off since they started in June, violence has increased.

At least five commuter buses and three tractor-trailer trucks were burned by protesters in Sao Paulo late yesterday. Police say some groups of mostly young men looted stores. A major highway heading north out of Sao Paulo was temporarily blocked.

The protests erupted after the weekend shooting death of teenager Douglas Rodrigues by a police officer as authorities responded to a disturbance of the peace call.

Police say the shooting was accidental, but have not given details.

The officer who shot the boy is in custody as an investigation continues.
