Petulant toddler thrown off flight

A THREE-year-old boy who refused to use his seatbelt was kicked off a flight at an airport in Seattle.

The Alaska Airlines pilot returned to the gate at Sea-Tac Airport on Saturday and asked the boy and his father to get off. Alaska Airlines said it was a matter of safety and that the pilot would rather deal with it on the ground than mid-flight.

Two killed in US cafe shooting

TWO people have been killed and three injured in a shooting in a cafe in Seattle's university district.

Police said one of the wounded had life-threatening injuries and two are in serious condition. They are searching for the gunman, described as a man in his 30s and wearing dark clothes.

Lucky couple keep cool after £1m win

A couple who forgot to check their lottery ticket for two months have finally claimed their £1m (€1.25) EuroMillions Raffle jackpot.

Alan and Kim Elliott, from Aspley, Nottingham, bought the winning lucky dip ticket, stuck it on their fridge and only remembered to check it last week.

Vodka leaves bad taste for Mormons

A brand of vodka called 'Five Wives' has been declared to be bad taste for offending Mormons and will not be stocked at stores in Idaho.

It is made by Ogden's Own Distillery in Utah, where the Mormon church is based. Its label carries the name and an image of five women, an apparent reference to polygamy, a practice abandoned by that church more than a century ago.

Radiation phone monitors on sale

Worries over radiation are so rampant in Japan after last year's nuclear meltdowns that the world's first mobile phones with built-in radiation monitors are going on sale.

Softbank Corp, the carrier for the hit iPhone and iPad in Japan, said the Pantone 5 mobile device that shows the microsieverts-per-hour number on a display at a push of a button would go on sale in July.

Eddie Shah faces sex abuse charge

FORMER 'Today' newspaper proprietor Eddie Shah has been charged with raping and abusing a young girl, police have said.

The 68-year-old was charged alongside another man and a woman, both 52, at Hammersmith Police Station in London, Scotland Yard said. All three are accused of sex offences, said to have happened in the 1990s.
