A massive manhunt is underway after a one-month-old baby girl was kidnapped in a car-hijacking incident in South Africa.

Siwaphiwe Mbambo, who was just one-month-old, was snatched from her mother in the city of Durban.

The baby's mother and brother were left behind while the two alleged hijackers took off with the baby in the car.

The car was found nearby but the baby and her car seat were missing.

Police spokesman Thulani Zwane told Sky News: "Up to now the infant has not been found and police will continue their search.

"It's alleged that the mother was breastfeeding her child in the car and the two suspects came and hijacked the vehicle and took the baby.

"Later the vehicle was recovered where it was found abandoned.

"Up to now the baby is still missing. She was last seen wearing a vest and nappies."

More than €15,000 has been put up as a reward for information leading to the baby's recovery.
