A New Jersey mother is accused of abandoning her special needs son in a woods near a military base last weekend.

Debra Wisler (39) was arrested and charged with child endangerment after she abandoned her 10-year-old special needs son outside a military base.

Local media report that the mother walked into the woods with her son and left him there with his luggage after she found out he wasn't eligible for a children's programme at the military base.

It's reported that the little boy was spotted in the woods by a passing driver the following morning.

He later told police that he woke up cold and hungry.

The driver notified staff at the military base who gave the boy food and water.

He was treated for minor injuries and child protection services placed him in a temporary foster home.

His mother was arrested on Friday.

Her Facebook page is filled with photos of her son and her bio description reads: "I can be ur best friend intill u do me dirty. N i have a heart of gold. n my son is my world."
