Ed Wiseman

This dashcam video from Illinois, US shows a Good Samaritan leap to the rescue of a total stranger – who had suffered a seizure at the wheel.

39-year-old Randy Tompkins, who can be seen driving a pickup truck in the video, was driving in the city of Dixon, around 100 miles west of Chicago and Lake Michigan. He spotted that a driver in the opposite carriageway was behaving erratically, his arms close to his chest and his car slowly rolling towards oncoming traffic.

Mr Tompkins briefly reversed his pickup truck, then approached the straying car on foot. After approaching tentatively he leapt through the open passenger-side window, managing to apply the footbrake and prevent an accident.

He then performed first aid on the poorly motorist, who was then taken to hospital for treatment.
