Two teen girls facing murder for allegedly beating girl to death on Facebook Live
Two Canadian teenage girls have been arrested after they allegedly posted a video to Facebook Live showing them beating a fellow student to death.
The two teenagers have been arrested on second-degree murder charges and have not been named in the media.
The girls, aged 16 and 17, shared the footage to their social media page and a private messaging app.
Serena McKay (19) was beaten to death in the assault.
McKay was last seen by her family on April 23, New York Daily News reports, and was found dead nearby later that day.
CBC reports that the footage was left streaming on Facebook for a total of nearly four hours before it was ordered to be taken down.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are currently investigating the incident.
Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg on Wednesday announced that the company will hire 3,000 more people to review videos of crime and suicides after criticism.
