A Canadian man has been fined for singing along to a 90s dance hit while sitting in a car.

Taoufik Moalla was handed a $149 (€100) fine for being too loud in public.

He was singing along to C+C Music Factory's "Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) while in his car.

Mr Moalla said the windows were rolled up and when he was stopped by police in Montreal they asked him why he was screaming.

"I said, 'No, I was singing,'" Mr Moalla told the Montreal Gazette.

"I was singing the refrain 'Everybody Dance Now,' but it wasn't loud enough to disturb anyone."

But the officers issued him with the fine.

"I understand if they are doing their job, they are allowed to check if everything's okay, if I kidnapped someone or if there's danger inside, but I would never expect they would give me a ticket for that," he told another news outlet CTV.

He has said he will fight the fine.
