Two teenage boys have been arrested for shooting a 14-year-old girl in the head claiming she was "annoying them with texts and snapchats".
Deserae Turner from Utah was allegedly lured to a canal by two 16-year-old boys and was shot in the head and left for dead.
Deserae was not found until the next day and she was rushed to hospital where she remains in a serious condition.
The two boys are now facing attempted aggravated murder charges.
In a police interview, the suspects said they came up with the plan to "get rid" of Deserae while playing video games, according to the New York Post.
The said they were "getting tired" of the 14-year-old "constantly contacting them" and plotted to kill her with a gun or knife.
The two teenage boys will appear before court in relation to the assualt.
In a statement the family said that Deserae has made some progress.
"Des is fighting so hard and we are grateful for the many small miracles along the way. Deserae has moved to the Neuro Trauma Unit. Her next steps include another surgery and extensive rehabilitation.
"Our sweet girl has been through so much as she battled for her life and this will be a battle she fights for a long time if not for the rest of her life."
