Queen Elizabeth and Diana, Princess of Wales were among prominent figures who “kissed my ass” in letters, Donald Trump has claimed.
The former president plans to publish a book of correspondence he received before and during his time in the White House.
Publicising the book on Breitbart, the right-wing website, he said: “I think they’re going to see a very fascinating life. I knew them all – and every one of them kissed my ass.”
Letters to Trump will be his second book since leaving office. The first, Our Journey Together, was a collection of photographs from his time as president.
Letters to Trump contains 150 letters from a range of prominent figures such as the British royal family, as well as many senior political figures including former presidents Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, George H W Bush, Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Barack Obama.
There is also correspondence from Xi Jinping, the Chinese president, Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, and Jair Bolsonaro, the former Brazilian president.
Donald Trump Jr, Mr Trump’s son, told Breitbart that he had corresponded with some of the world’s most interesting people: “It’s amazing how quickly their adoration of him changed when he ran for office as a Republican.
“Letters to Trump shows you exactly how they felt about him and how phony their newfound disdain truly is.”
Mr Trump’s links with the late Princess Diana date back to the mid-1990s when they occasionally met at charity events.
They shared a table, along with Marla Maples, his second wife, at a dinner in which the princess was named United Cerebral Palsy Humanitarian of the Year.
Mr Trump was reportedly smitten with Diana, offering her membership in Mar-a-Lago, which she declined.
According to Selina Scott, the broadcaster, Mr Trump sent huge bouquets to Kensington Palace following Diana’s divorce.
Ms Scott added: “It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her.”
