Prison guards find €18m of cocaine hidden in bananas
Bananas donated to a Texas prison turned out to have cocaine worth almost $18m (€15m) hidden inside the boxes.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice revealed the seizure in a Facebook post.
Officials said that the drugs were found on Friday in two pallets of bananas that were donated to the unidentified prison because they were already ripe.
Officers found a bundle of a white powdery substance under the bananas in one of the boxes.
US customs officials were called to the scene, and a total of 540 packages of cocaine were found in 45 boxes of bananas.
The department says federal officials and the US Customs and Border Protection were investigating.
