Trump brands Pelosi a 'nasty, horrible person'
US President Donald Trump attacked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as "a nasty, vindictive, horrible person" in his first public comments since reports that she told colleagues she would like to see him in prison rather than impeached.
"I think she's a disgrace," Mr Trump said on Fox News. "I actually don't think she's a talented person. I've tried to be nice to her because I would have liked to have gotten some deals done. She's incapable of doing deals. She's a nasty, vindictive, horrible person."
The interview with Fox News host Laura Ingraham was conducted at the site of the solemn ceremony in France commemorating the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion. Against the backdrop of a cemetery where nearly 10,000 American war dead are buried, Mr Trump also called Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer a "jerk" and ex-special counsel Robert Mueller a "fool".
Mr Trump's tirade about Ms Pelosi came in response to a question about comments she made during a meeting on Tuesday night. Trying to tamp down impeachment talk about Mr Trump, Ms Pelosi said she would rather "see him in prison" after leaving office, according to two Democratic sources.
Calls for impeachment have been growing among Democrats, who have seized on episodes of possible obstruction of justice by Mr Trump detailed in Mr Mueller's report about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
