President sued for claim his rape accuser is a liar
An advice columnist who says US President Donald Trump raped her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s sued him yesterday for calling her a liar he had never even met.
E Jean Carroll's lawsuit, filed in New York, says Mr Trump "smeared her integrity, honesty and dignity - all in the national press" when he responded to her allegations, first broached in 'New York' magazine this past June as Ms Carroll prepared to release a book.
"Nobody is entitled to conceal acts of sexual assault behind a wall of defamatory falsehoods and deflections," Ms Carroll's lawyer Roberta Kaplan wrote in the suit.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages and a retraction of Mr Trump's statements.
A message requesting comment was sent to a law firm that has represented Mr Trump in other cases.
Ms Carroll, a longtime advice columnist for 'Elle' magazine, is among over a dozen women who have accused Mr Trump of sexual misconduct or sexual assault, pre-dating his presidency.
