US President Donald Trump suffered a faux-pas in front of international leaders when he pronounced Namibia "Nambia".

The outspoken politician was praising the southern African nation of Namibia's healthcare system in New York yesterday when he made the gaffe.

Speaking during a UN General Assembly luncheon, he said: "In Guinea and Nigeria you fought a horrifying Ebola outbreak.

“Nambia’s health system is increasingly sufficient.”

Nambia doesn't exist and a White House spokesperson later confirmed he was referring to Namibia.

Trump also claimed to African leaders that he knows many business leaders who are hoping to cash in on the continent's economic potential.

He said: “I have so many friends going to your countries trying to get rich.”
