US President Donald Trump received a backlash after he appeared to ignore a boy in a wheeelchair.

Trump made a passionate speech at The White House's Blue Room on Monday, appealing for Republican members of the Senate to repeal Obamacare.

Lined up behind him were children, who he dubbed "victims of Obamacare."

At the end of his speech he shook the hands of each of the children and their parents, except for a boy in a wheelchair, who reached up his arm to the outspoken politician twice.

The former Apprentice star quickly came under fire on social media but all is not as it seems.

The full clip shows that Trump made a beeline for the boy when he entered the room and shook his hand fire before he made his speech.
