A couple have been jailed for 17 years for sexually abusing a child and livestreaming it to a convicted sex offender in the US.

British couple Sarah Gotham (34) and Craig Forbes (36) appeared before Plymouth Crown Court yesterday where they were jailed after the female paedophile, named Kori Ellis, told FBI officers in the US about the pair.

The court heard that the pair drugged and abused the child before streaming the abuse over Skype to California in 2012 and 2013.

They came to the attention of the police after the FBI arrested a man Florida for possession of indecent images of children.

A probe of his computer led to Ellis, who told the FBI about two people in the UK who she had witnessed abusing a girl via Skype.

The court heard that Ellis, Gotham and Forbes had graphic online chats that were described as "64 pages of filth and extreme depravity".

Forbes admitted to three charges of sexual assault, possession of indecent images and breaching a sexual harm prevention order.

Gotham was found guilty of six charges of sexual assault of a child under 13.

Gotham was jailed for nine years and Forbes for eight.

While handing out his sentence, Judge Ian Lawrie said he believed Gotham had been "corrupted" by Forbes.

He added: "He is manipulative, devious and is unquestionably interested in child pornography and from everything I have read and heard a clear and constant threat to children."
