Mum reveals horror after strange man took her child from trolley in supermarket
A woman has described her horror after a strange man picked her child up from her trolley in a supermarket.
Florence Monauer (33) described how the man picked up her 14-month-old daughter Emery without asking or saying anything.
She has now released footage of the man, and said she is fearful it was an attempt to kidnap her child when her back was turned.
The incident occurred in a supermarket in Houston, Texas.
Florence told Independent.ie the supermarket were "very helpful" during the ordeal, but she now wants to warn other parents.
She said the stranger had first spoken to her daughter as they were passing in the aisle.
Several minutes later she was looking at an item when the man returned and picked Emery up out of the trolley without asking.
Florence said she heard Emery crying and turned to see he had picked her up.
She said the man had no shopping or a trolley with him while he was in the supermarket.
"I got surveillance. Let me explain my actions first because it appeared I was okay with it," she told Independent.ie.
"I thought he was just an over-friendly guy and maybe he didn't understand what was appropriate and what wasn't.
"I didn't want to make a big scene out of it, and I generally don't want to assume that people are up to no good.
"I'm so angry with myself for letting him hold her for even a second.
"The more I thought about it, the more wrong it appeared. Please be on the look out for this guy."
Florence reported the incident to authorities as an attempted kidnapping but she does admit it may have just been strange behaviour.
Police are now investigating.
