Moment crying boy with autism (9) handcuffed by police after 'defending himself against bullies' Newsdesk Newsdesk

An Indiana father has shared the moment his nine-year-old son was handcuffed by police.

Ronnie Shepherd says his son, who has autism, was defending himself against bullies for the second time in a week.

In the video, the boy can be seen sobbing while his father attempts to comfort him.

The child was charged as a juvenile with battery and criminal mischief. All charges were later dropped.

A police chief said the student was arrested for battering another student, as well as two teachers.

Mr Shepherd said his son was just defending himself against bullies who he claims were targeting his son.

"Watching my nine-year-old autistic son being handcuffed was very disturbing. He's very traumatised by it," he told MailOnline.

Mr Shepherd said he went into defence mode when hit by a bully, so hit a teacher who was attempting to break up the fight.

"When he calmed down he said sorry to the teacher."

The boy has since moved schools and is happier as a result.
