This is the heartbreaking moment a dog was allowed into a hospital to "say goodbye" to his human.

Ryan Jessen (33), from California, initially believed he had a migraine before he was hospitalised and diagnosed with a ventricular brain hemorrhage.

The young man's family were told he would not recover and they gathered at his bedside on November 30.

Ryan's sister later took to Facebook to share the video of the moment and to thank the hospital in question.

"THANK YOU to everybody for the outpouring of support, but I won't be responding anymore," she continued.

"We are sincerely touched and humbled by others' stories, their sharing in our sadness and the kindness of so many people.

"Don't worry about the dog! We're keeping her!!! She's part of the family."

The video has since been viewed over 12 million times on Facebook.
