Former astronaut and the last man to walk on the moon dies
The last man to walk on the moon, Gene Cernan, has died aged 82.
The Apollo 17 commander was part of the Nasa's last lunar mission in 1972.
In a tweet the space agency confirmed the death: "We are saddened by the loss of retired NASA astronaut Gene Cernan, the last man to walk on the moon."
When Cernan stepped out from lunar module ‘Challenger’ he became the 11th person to walk on the lunar surface.

His lunar module pilot, Jack Schmitt, was the 12th.
But as commander, Cernan was the last to re-enter the module, making him the last person to walk on the lunar surface.
