Karen McDougal, the former 'Playboy' model who alleges she had an affair with US President Donald Trump, has claimed he tried to pay her after their first sexual encounter.

Ms McDougal told CNN that she developed feelings for the then-real estate mogul during their 10-month relationship.

The 46-year-old claimed the relationship began in 2006 - just months after Mr Trump's wife Melania gave birth to their son Barron.

She said when he tried to pay her, she told him: "That's not me. I'm not that kind of girl...He said, 'Oh, you're really special'...it hurt me that he saw me in that light."

Ms McDougal also described feeling guilty when she was taken to Trump Tower and he showed her his wife's bedroom, and that she assumed the pair were having marital difficulties.

She claimed she later heard from a friend the couple had argued over their affair.

In the tearful interview, Ms McDougal said she wished to say "sorry" to the First Lady, adding: "I wouldn't want it done to me."
