Cuba Gooding Sr, the soul singer and father of actor Cuba Gooding Jr, has died at the age of 72.

Gooding, whose group The Main Ingredient had hits in the 1970s with 'Everybody Plays the Fool' and 'Just Don't Want to be Lonely', was found in his car on Ventura Boulevard, Los Angeles, at around 1pm on Thursday.

ABC reported the Los Angeles county coroner's office as saying drug paraphernalia and bottles of alcohol were found in the vehicle, and that Gooding had appeared to have died either from natural causes or a drug overdose.

His car, a 2012 silver Jaguar, was seen pulling up at around 3.30am yesterday, and Gooding was last seen alive at around 10.30am.

A passer-by noticed an unresponsive body in the early afternoon.

They alerted emergency services.

Paramedics attempted to revive Gooding, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gooding had four children with his wife, singer Shirley Gooding: eldest son Cuba, Omar, also an actor, April and Tommy.
