Boyfriend charged with murder after body of missing pregnant teacher found
A man has been charged with murder after his missing pregnant girlfriend's body was found.
Lauren Wallen, a High School teacher, was missing for nine days before her remains were discovered in a shallow grave in a wooded area of Maryland in the US.
Her boyfriend and the unborn child's father, Tyler Tessier, had pleaded for her return just two days before the grim discovery.
“If somebody has her, please understand that you’ve taken away a huge person in so many people’s life,” he said on Monday. “I don’t know where she is. I don’t know. I pray that she’s safe and that she comes back. That’s all I care about.”
Now it has emerged that police were suspicious about his involvement at the time and allowed him to carry out that press conference.
Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger said: “The decision to allow him to participate in that news conference was a calculated decision made by the detectives in this case for the express purpose of hearing what he had to say. It was done with the approval and knowledge of the victim’s family,”
Ms Wallen’s parents had offered a $25,000 (€21,000) reward for information leading to Wallen’s location, according to local reports.
Mr Tessier had been the last one to see the teacher before the 31-year-old disappeared. They were together at a grocery store near her home on Saturday, September 2.
She was four months pregnant at the time.
Mr Tessier was arrested on Wednesday and will now be charged with her murder.
