A one-year-old boy has died after he was left inside a car for up to five hours in Texas.

Kingston Jackson died on Friday April 14 after he was found by a neighbour outside an apartment block at Southeast Gardens Boulevard, according to Fox News.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a neighbor performing CPR on the unresponsive child.

The one-year-old was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Family members told NBC 5 that the child's mum was dropping off her kids when the accident happened.

It's believed the older child got out of the car and the mother thought the father had removed the toddler from the car seat.

She then drove to a family member's home where she was for around five hours before discovering the child.

Police say they are investigating the issue but no charges have been filed.

It's believed temperatures were up to 27 degrees Celsius on the day.
