Biden's support falls as Harris gains by attacking race record
Support for Joe Biden's presidential bid has dropped by a third after he was repeatedly challenged in the first debate between Democrats seeking the party nomination for the next US election.
The proportion of Democrats who would back Mr Biden as the party's candidate in 2020 dropped from 32pc in May to 22pc, a CNN poll showed.
That was mirrored by a surge in support for Kamala Harris, who confronted Mr Biden over his race record at the debate. She moved into second place.
Elizabeth Warren, who was also seen to have performed well in the first debates last week, also substantially increased her support.
