New Cheerios ad provokes slew of racist remarks
A new ad for Cheerios breakfast cereal has caused an online storm after it garnered dozens of racist remarks in a comments page.
The 30-second ad depicts a bi-racial family and shows a young child asking her mother whether Cheerios are good for your heart.
When the mother replies that they are, the child dumps a handful of the cereal onto the chest of her sleeping black father on the couch.
The hate-filled responses in the YouTube page prompted Cheerios makers General Mills to disable the comments on its YouTube page.
“The comments that were made in our view were not family-friendly, and that was really the trigger for us, you know, to pull them off,’’ General Mills Vice P
President for Marketing Camille Gibson said.
However, the company have no plans to stop airing the ad and said that despite the hate-filled comments, they had received a very positive response to it.
