The human toll from the massacre at two mosques in New Zealand became clearer last night as loved ones shared stories and remembered the 50 victims who were killed as they prayed last Friday.

Families were putting preparations in place to bury their loved ones in the wake of the attack in Christchurch that has been described as one of the country's darkest days.

Three-year-old Mucad Ibrahim is feared to be dead - and the youngest victim of the attack. He was at the Al Noor mosque with his father.

Arrangements were being made last night to facilitate victims' families travelling to New Zealand and to have bodies repatriated.

Abdul Aziz (48) was among those to survive and was hailed a hero for challenging the gunman and leading him on a cat-and-mouse chase.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar condemned the killings in New Zealand as an "act of terrorism". He said social media companies "should have zero tolerance for anything that promotes violence or hatred".
