Mock Putin video a viral YouTube hit

A fake news report about Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin being put on trial has become an overnight YouTube sensation in Russia, getting over two million hits in just 48 hours.

The video, a collage of old video footage, shows Putin in a cage-like structure as he appears before court on theft and terrorism charges. Putin is hoping to secure a third term when the Russian presidential election takes place on March 4.

No five-year break for me -- Adele

Singing star Adele, who won six Grammy Awards at the weekend, yesterday laughed off suggestions she is to take a five-year break from music.

"I've a few days off now, and then it's the Brit Awards and then I'm straight into the studio. Five years off? More like five days," said the 23-year-old chart-topper.

Naturist fined for beauty spot walk

A man who rambled through a popular beauty spot naked except for a backpack, boots and a baseball cap has been fined £315 (€379).

Nigel Keer (41), a committed naturist, was found guilty at Leeds Magistrates' Court of a public order offence after causing distress to a woman who was walking her dog.

Power of love leads to blackout

A Valentine's Day gift has been blamed for causing a power cut in Southern California.

A small helium-filled balloon scored a direct hit on cables to a substation, knocking out power to 15,099 customers. The power company said the balloon was probably a Valentine's gift.

Treadmills pose danger of burns

Doctors are warning of the "significant danger" of home treadmills after reports of children suffering deep burns and trapping their hands in the running belt.

New research found more youngsters suffering injuries to their arms. A total of more than two-thirds of children assessed in two UK burns units had suffered deep burns from a treadmill.

Tasered man spits out crack cocaine

A mumbling man Tasered by police in Pennsylvania suddenly spat out 23 individually wrapped packets of crack cocaine.

Police said the man was a passenger in a car that they had stopped. He struggled with officers and was hit with the stun gun only to have the drugs pop out of his mouth immediately.
