A SYRIAN protester in Egypt has been released on bail after trying to attack Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, with a shoe as he came out of a Cairo mosque.
Despite a successful start to Mr Ahmadinejad's visit to Egypt, political and religious differences have come to the fore.
Mr Ahmadinejad, who allied Iran with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has endured denunciations of Iran's promotion of Shia Islam by Sunni clerics and, as he left a Mosque, was met by protesting Syrians.
