Kushner in rare public appearance to defend Israel policy
Embattled presidential adviser Jared Kushner made a rare public appearance last night to deny that Donald Trump had decided to abandon decades of US policy and recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital.
Mr Kushner is reported to be the senior adviser who told disgraced aide Michael Flynn to contact the Russians after the US presidential election.
Mr Trump's son-in-law, who is married to Ivanka, appeared at a Washington think-tank event on Israel and claimed the president continues to weigh his options ahead of an announcement on the matter this week.
Just hours earlier, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas warned that US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital would jeopardise the White House's Middle East peace efforts, which are being co-ordinated by Mr Kushner.
He said such a move represented a threat to the future of the peace process and was unacceptable for the Palestinians and Arabs.
