Iran: world will witness our advance on nukes
MAHMOUD Ahmadinejad, the president of Iran, has inflamed tensions with Israel and the US with an ambiguous promise to unveil a "very important" nuclear achievement in the near future, writes Phoebe Greenwood.
Speaking at celebrations to mark the 33rd anniversary of the Iranian Revolution, he told a rally in Tehran: "In the coming days, the world will witness Iran's announcement of its very important and very major nuclear achievements."
The announcement prompted speculation in Israel, which is calling for a pre-emptive strike on Iran's nuclear production facilities before the work moves to underground bunkers.
Dr Ephraim Asculal, an Israeli expert on nuclear proliferation, said the advance is more likely to be that Iran has made fuel rods to be inserted into the reactor at the Tehran nuclear research centre. (© Daily Telegraph, London)
