Four protesters given Bahrain death sentence

A military court in Bahrain yesterday sentenced four Shi'ite protesters to death for killing two policemen during anti-government demonstrations last month. Three others got life in prison.

The verdicts were the first related to Bahrain's uprising. The kingdom's Shi'ite majority has long complained of discrimination and is campaigning for greater freedoms and equal rights in the tiny Sunni-ruled nation.
