Afghan girl, 10, arrested wearing explosive suicide vest
An Afghan girl, reported to be ten years old, has been detained wearing an explosive suicide vest in Helmand province.
According to local media the girl was unable to detonate the bomb. Her name is reportedly Spozhmai and it is believed she may have been coerced into carrying out the attack by her brother, a Taliban commander.
Militants in Iraq often use child bombers, some of them disabled, to bypass security checks but the use of women and children bombers in A has been relatively rare in the years since US backed forces toppled the Taliban government.
The girl was arrested on the same day a NATO military convoy was bombed outside its base in Kabul’s diplomatic quarter. No troops were hurt but in a separate incident in East Afghanistan ISAF confirmed one person was killed in a suicide attack on Saturday.
