7 killed in Baghdad car bomb

Seven people have been killed and nine others injured in a car bomb explosion in Iraq.

The blast happened in the Shiite Bayaa district of Baghdad.

Although violence in the city is down sharply from last year, US officials fear an increase in the run-up to provincial elections to be held by the end of January.

No date has yet been set for the election, which will see voters select ruling councils in most of the country's 18 provinces.
