20 dead in Syrian violence
A fresh wave of violence swept through Syria yesterday leaving at least 21 people dead.
With no let-up in the five-month uprising against the government of President Bashar al-Assad, the head of the Arab League said yesterday that he would visit Damascus as early as this week.
Opposition activists said security forces had killed at least 12 people yesterday, while state media claimed that an "armed group" had opened fire on a bus carrying troops, killing nine.
Meanwhile, troops loyal to Ali Abdullah Saleh, the Yemeni president, deployed in force in Sanaa, the capital, yesterday after opposition groups called for new mass protests to dislodge him from power.
