At least 18 Palestinians have been killed and dozens wounded in an escalation of violence between militants in the Gaza Strip and the Israeli military, which entered its third day yesterday.

Palestinian doctors stated that a 12-year-old boy and Zuhir Mussah, a senior member of the Popular Resistance Committee, were among those killed in 26 strikes since Friday. The Israeli military confirmed a barrage of hits, including a munitions facility.

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister, has vowed to continue the bombardment. "We will continue to hit whoever plans to attack citizens of Israel," he said.
