Marvel's new 'Avengers' sets world record on film's opening weekend
New Marvel superhero movie 'Avengers: Endgame' has shattered the records for biggest opening weekend with an estimated $350m (€314m) in ticket sales in the US and $1.2bn (€1.08bn) globally.
The 'Avengers' finale far exceeded even its own gargantuan expectations, according to studio estimates. It had been forecast to open between $260m-$300m in US and Canadian cinemas. But moviegoers turned out in such droves that 'Endgame' blew past the record of $257.7m, set last year by 'Avengers: Infinity War' when it surpassed 'The Force Awakens'. 'Endgame' was just as big overseas. Worldwide, it obliterated the previous record of $640.5m, also set by 'Infinity War'. The latter didn't open in China, the world's second-largest movie market, until two weeks after its debut.
