Manhunt underway after gunman opens fire on hotel in Barcelona's tourist district
One person is a critical condition after gunmen open fired on a group of people outside a hotel in Barcelona’s main tourist district La Rambla, according to Spanish police.
It is understood that several people were hurt when the men shot at two people outside of a four-star hotel in the city's downtown area.
The incident took place on the intersection between the La Rambla and Pinto Fortuny streets, causing panic among tourists and locals, according to the Spanish newspaper El Pais.
There were no details on the nationalities of the people involved.
A regional police officer said two people were standing outside a hotel when the gunmen arrived and opened fire on them, wounding one.
The official said the two people had not been staying at the hotel and that police have yet to establish a motive for the shooting.
It is understood that a manhunt is underway, and that police have killed one of the gunmen involved.
There has been mixed reports on the number of men involved in the attack, with two to three gunmen being reported.
The shooting was allegedly preceded by an attempted robbery of a foreign tourist, El Mundo paper reports.
