Latvia's prime minister Laimdota Straujuma resigns
Latvia's Prime Minister Laimdota Straujuma has resigned, meaning a new government will be appointed.
Arnitis Ringolds, head of the prime minister's office, says her resignation comes into effect immediately, but that she will head the three-party coalition in a caretaker capacity until a new government is chosen by parliament.
Mr Ringolds said the prime minister "feels that there is a need to have a new government ... to get new energy from new people".
Ms Straujuma's resignation comes after she fired the transport minister last month, sparking rumours of discontent within the centre-right cabinet that took office a year ago.
