Three men have been arrested after two journalists were killed during a Facebook Live broadcast in the Dominican Republic.

The footage shows the broadcast being interrupted by gunfire, before a woman can be heard shouting, "Shots! Shots!".

Police confirmed the shooting to have happened on Tuesday in San Pedro de Macoris, east of the capital Santo Domingo, the BBC reports.

The journalists have since been named as Luis Manuel Medina and radio producer Leo Martinez.

The radio producer and announcer were reading the news at the time, which was being streamed live on Facebook.

A woman was also injured during the incident.

The arrested men have not been charged and police say they do not know the motive.

"The investigations have begun and we will try, with all the means in our powers, to reach the truth," Attorney General Jean Rodriguez told the media.
